The TCFI solves tuning problems with highly modified engines. Competitive “band-aid” products that interface to the Delphi controller still rely on speed-density fuel control. Long duration/high overlap camshafts wreak havoc with manifold pressure - especially at idle and cruise RPM the speed-density based fuel controls simply cannot cope.
High-end automotive racing systems use alpha-N (throttle position and RPM based) full control. Alpha-N eliminates any dependence on manifold pressure and is unaffected by long duration/high overlap camshafts. The TCFI brings proven technology to the H-D marketplace.
An optional (included in HQ-6150-Kit) wide-band exhaust sensor (WEGO) interface allows auto-tuning during actual on-road riding conditions. The WEGO interface uses a high tech sensor originally developed for the new Honda Insight hybrid vehicle. The user programs table with the desired air/fuel ratios - the system then does the rest.
The TCFI has the same ignition control as our proven Twin Cam ignition system with full programable. This facilitates the use of throttle bodies modified for high airflow.
The TCFI communicates diagnostic information by blinking codes on the check engine LED. The unit also has built-in data logging that stores data for the last 15 minutes of operation. An optional (included in the HQ-6150-Kit) PC link cable and Windows compatible software allow the use of a laptop PC for programing and data analysis. The PC link cable plugs into the existing diagnostic connector on the motorcycle wiring harness.

The TCFI is not recommended for stock engines and will not increase power by itself. The unit has been tested on modified 88 and 95 CID engines. We provide setup tables for these applications that will get you up and running. From a practical standpoint, tuning any fuel injection system requires an exhaust analyzer. You can either spend a lot of time on a dyno with an exhaust sniffer (like the Dynojet units) or you can use our WEGO. With the WEGO, the system will auto-tune the fuel tables while you ride the bike - you will not need to spend time and money on dyno tuning. On-road auto-tuning only takes a few hours and gives much more realist results than dyno tuning. Air-cooled engines are very sensitive to thermal effects and dyno systems generally have inadequate cooling airflow.
If you are a consumer or dealer buying your first unit, we recommend that you purchase the complete TCFI kit (HQ-6150-KIT) pictured below, that contains the WEGO-LCD unit. If you have a Palm OS based handheld organizer, you cna use your Palm system to monitor air/fuel ratio and you can purchase the standard WEGO unit without the LCD display. If your company builds standard engine packages, you can tune in your first system with the WEGO and then load the data into subsequent TCFI units sold for similar engine applications.
***NOTE*** - Tuning the TCFI requires competency in PC operation, using Microsoft Windows based programs and basic engine tuning and fuel injection mapping concepts, including the use of an exhaust gas analyzer to monitor AFR ratios. The TCFI installer is assumed to be familiar with the Delphi fuel injection system and to have access to basic test equipment and factory service manuals.
